WHO IS TERRELL MCKINNEY?
I was born and raised in Omaha, I've lived in just about every section of the city of Omaha but District 11 has always been my home. I have five siblings, two brothers, and three sisters. I wear many hats but the number one job I have is being a father to my nine-year-old daughter Sana'a. My daily life primarily consists of community organizing, attending community events and meetings, coaching wrestling at Omaha North Magnet High School and for Ready RP Nationals Wrestling, co-hosting a weekly podcast, starting in the fall I will be attending Creighton University School of Law.
WHY AM I RUNNING?
I am running to represent District 11 in the Nebraska State Legislature because as a young Black man I believe that I don't have the luxury to wait for change, nor sit out another election. After all, it was Frederick Douglass who once said, “power concedes nothing without struggle.” District 11 is located in Historic North Omaha, which has issues that have been years in the making, and we can’t wait for more years to solve them. The reason why I believe I am best qualified to address these issues is my commitment to being one with our community such that I am bringing the voices of our community with me to Lincoln. Our state legislature has a massive need for more young voices, especially from underserved communities, to give proper attention to 21st-century challenges unapologetically.
